NC State Poole College Transfer Appreciation Week, Yusuf Mahmoud

NC State Poole College Transfer Appreciation Week, Yusuf Mahmoud

I chose NC State because of all the
opportunities that were provided here. We have so many majors and concentrations
for students, and we also have a lot of programs that students can be involved
with. Also, I really love the “Think and Do.” I love being able to think in class and
learn in class, but also do and apply outside of class, so that’s something
that definitely attracted me to NC State and to Poole College of Management. It’s really
important for transfer students to get involved on campus here. A lot of times
when you transfer here, maybe 2 years later, people are already in their groups
and cliques, and you feel like an outsider sometimes. That’s why you have
to be involved. I say this to a lot of people: if you come to class and come to
campus just to go to class and do your homework, you’re gonna get that degree at the
end of the day. But if you get involved on campus, get involved with clubs and
organizations, you get so much more out of it than just a degree. You get a
friends group, you get experiences to share for your life. One thing that
makes a transfer experience unique is that before, or at a community college,
you see a diversity of backgrounds. Here, you see a diversity of thoughts. Once you
go through this experience, you learn how to interact with both, how to
understand both and how to work with both. Advice that I have for students that
are transferring to NC State or to Poole is to make sure that you do your
research, make sure to have a plan A, a plan B, and a Plan C. Go over your plans
with your advisors, and don’t ever lose motivation if your plan doesn’t work.
My name is Yusuf, and this is my path to Poole.
