– A few weeks ago, my life was shaken by this one incident and people are still talking about it. Almost everyone says that I did a horrible thing, and I genuinely don’t know if what I did was right. But let’s start from the beginning. You see, I was never a popular guy. But when I was 13, I suffered a major accident while cycling. Now I have two really deep, long facial scars. So, I’m tall, ugly and intimidating for most people, especially girls. Whenever I go outside without my hood on, people stare at me. I have been teased really bad because of my scars, especially at school. I eventually got used to it since it was happening every-single-day. But there was this one girl, Ashley, I’d known since middle school. I had a really, like, REALLY big crush on her. At first, I thought she was genuinely sweet and amazing. She was a popular girl at school, surrounded by all those cool kids. Ashley wasn’t really paying attention to me. But when I tried to have a random conversation with her once in a while, she was really kind. And well, my family knew how I liked this girl, so they said I should ask her out. And I felt that it’s the right time to do this. So, I created a song for Ashley, went to get her favorite chocolate and finally asked her out. At first, she looked… confused. She told me that she had to think about it. The next day she called me, acted all cute and agreed to go out with me. I was over the moon! So, the same day, we went to a fancy restaurant and actually had a fun time together. She was really sweet to me. The next week or so, I was in heaven. People started noticing me, even her friends were being friendly to me. I honestly cried everyday because I felt so fortunate to get so much love. But soon… It all broke down. One day, Ashley’s friend, Danielle, who was on Instagram and followed her, sent some screenshots to me. Apparently, Ashley was posting stuff about me saying ‘Fulfilled his lifelong wish by being his Valentine’s’. Or ‘Making his day by finally helping him interact with my friends’. In one post, she even wrote ‘He is ugly but beautiful people accept ugly people’. To each post, she was adding the hashtag ‘uglypeoplematter’. And well, it only gets worse. Ashley also asked all her friends to be kind to me and tolerate me till the first week of March. And then distance themselves from me. She apparently wanted to win some stupid ‘Positive role model’ award for her college application, because she was lagging behind in community service. Ashley probably thought that playing with my feelings for a few days wouldn’t hurt and since I was ugly, she felt really kind by giving me all this attention. I honestly felt disgusted and betrayed. After finding this out, I was in tears and my blood was boiling. I needed to do something about this. So, I found some info about this award on Facebook. I contacted the authorities to make sure that Ashley’s name was on the nominations list. And then I told them everything that she did to me by showing them those screenshots from Instagram. The next day, one of my friends told me she had received a message from the committee saying her nomination was withdrawn. And that everyone in the school knew that I was responsible for what happened and judged me for that. Later that day, I saw Ashley crying her eyes out in the school’s hallway. She was giving me a super angry look, but didn’t say anything. But honestly, I have no remorse whatsoever about what I did to her. Now I feel… relieved. I know that I’m a good person and I’ll continue being this way. But I won’t let others treat me like a nobody. No one deserves to experience this kind of behavior. I know that I’ll have an amazing life ahead because I’ve learned how to stand up for myself.
