Family Medicine Director Alan Douglass, MD | Middlesex Hospital

My name is doctor Alan Douglass I’ve worked
here for 23 years at Middlesex I’m the director of Middlesex
Hospital family medicine our group as well as the family medicine
residency program I think the thing I’m most
proud of in my life is my four children who
are being very successful and I think there’s a lot of pride that
comes as a parent watching them grow it up into a
productive wonderful human beings One of the wonderful things about being a
family doctor is you have the opportunity to build
long-term relationships with your patients when you know someone for a long time
you’re able to take better care of them you understand the context of their life
you have a much better grasp of their medical illnesses as well as
their strengths and you can bring it all together into
much more successful care I now take care of the children of
the children I have delivered I care for grandparents and parents
and children and sometimes grandchildren all in the same family
the more that I do this the more rewarding I find just simply
sitting down with the patient in spending time with them
medicine offers the opportunity to care for patients in the long term
in all their wonderful complexity but regardless of where you
are or what you need your family physician will be there for you
serving as your guide
