Dice Hospital: Community Care | Overview | slickerdrips


hi everyone I’m Tom and today I’m going to be showing you dogs Hospital community care which is an expansion for Dallas hospital as you might expect which is on Kickstarter right now there’ll be a link to the campaign page in the description and in the corner so you can go and check out all of the final stuff because anything new that the expansion adds is to prototype materials it’s the full game behind it but forever anything new I’m showing here is prototype so there are three new modules to add to dog hospital and they each add their own special flavor to the game and I’m just going to be going over each one here if you are completely new to dice hospital and you would like to see how it plays I did a playthrough for the very first Kickstarter back when there that was a prototype and I’ll link that in the description as well so you can get a feel for the game in general but hey let’s take a look at some of the modules so the one I’ve got set up here to start us with is the improvements module so the things that this is adding so far is you remove all of the blue specialists from the deck and you add in the new ones here and these are to do with manipulating getting extra benefits out of the improvement tokens that are here on the new improvements board and there is a special intake board in between the two highest numbered ambulances so for the intake we now draw extra dice in every round we’re gonna draw an additional die but in rounds five to eight we’re gonna draw three additional dikes you can see that on the intake board there so when we’re you know in it in a two-player game that’s just what I’ve got set up here we would need nine dikes normally and then you roll them for your patience and reroll anyone’s two 6s or over there three six nine but this time I’m going to get an extra one here and when we roll all of these out they still follow the same rules as you know lowest to highest so get rid of the sixes and the ones and reroll them there we go so so one I almost had it perfect so you would have the lowest numbers in the first ambulance as normal and then going up fill the next ambulance along but now one goes in here and we fill up the highest ambulance as well and so you can see here it says highest ambulance remember prototype stuff it’s highest ambulance here so if I was to take the highest ambulance I would have to take the three yellow fives and the red four as well and then later on you will be taking extra dice and for the sake of for the sake of rearranging everything here let’s just say that we happen to roll force so they can all go here so now if I was to take the highest ambulance I will be taking two extra ones and if I was to take the number two ambulance I would get another extra one there and it’s the same for a higher play account which it’s gonna be higher ambulances along than two and three the next thing that changes is the improvement phase as well as getting an improvement so a new room or a new specialist you also get an improvement token there are only four available each round though the ones that are on display here so you know turn order is still really gonna matter for the ones that you want and you can either keep them for later or you can use them right now in a room but once you’ve put one in a room it has to say you know let’s change your mind later on and you’re allowed to put if you’ve saved them for future and you’re allowed to put them out whenever you feel like it and you can’t you can’t have more than two in a room that’s important as well so in the tokens that we’ve got here for the green we have choose and heal a different patient of the matching color with the same value and you see some of these symbols you might recognize from the rooms but so they can be put on symbols to further enhance those rooms or on rooms of that color that don’t particularly have that ability to give them extra power the red one here is you know use the normal activation of the room but have it heal a patient and extra step so for example what if you had the operating theater that already heals a patient three steps well you could end up putting this on here maybe get another one later and it could be an instant cure for red patients and might tempt you know once you’ve got these kind of systems going these engines running it can encourage you to go for maybe the sicker patients and the ambulances with more patients on there if you have a really fantastic way of curing certain patients the yellow one here is treat a patient one step that is one higher than a patient already being treated and you see there’s the urology building that’s in the original game is works in a similar way to that you could add it to that and have it treats two dice of one number higher the great one here doesn’t actually go out onto a room you get rid of the token and permanently get an extra nurse meeple for the rest of the game and there are a couple more in the air right let me find that this something I should have found out before isn’t it so we have similarly that the plus one the minus one he’ll enter the patient that’s one fewer than a patient already healed by the department and we have this one here that treats a patient by two steps but they have to be a value of one or two and there’s also another one in here to see there is the good old Ganner blood back but also here is a really strong one of they’re all pretty strong in their way are they in the right situation but this one lets you choose any die and change its color so now if you are insanely good at treating red patients but all these different colors keep coming up or you’ve got the perfect ambulance but it thanks to the extra intake boards you’ve got a pesky green in the way then you can dit the the final expression is going to come with tokens for you to keep track of the color that you change the dye to but yeah this is gonna give you even more control even more customization over your hospital and that’s what I really like about this it is it’s nice that it gives you a tougher decision when you are choosing to take these especially as the game goes on you are kind of signing yourself up for five patients if you take that highest numbered ambulance but you can end up with this super hospital where you are just changing the color of any dice that don’t suit your thing you have a room that just treats a load of steps and an extra die of the Dove one number higher and yeah you can get into these crazy combinations even more so than you could in the original game so that’s the improvements module next we’ve got the maternity expansion and as you might expect in this expansion our patients can include mothers and newborn infants that need to have some treatment so the extra things here we have special improvements for them expansion this is a little bit wrong in a two-player game the first player would decide are we gonna have a specialist or room out here but I’ve put them both has he can have a nice little look and the specialist half power is relating to you know if you treat an infant or mother for the rest of the round you can treat any other diet as if it was a different color or there is one that lets you get blood bags when you discharge a mother or infant this one when you treat an invert or mother you can treat another patient that’s any color but it’s one number less than the mother or infant was all those you know heal a patient two more steps half shuffled please I should have I should have really doctored the order of them shouldn’t I so you can see everything up front but there you go when you treat a mother or child also they get two extra treatment two extra steps than you normally would there’s the one when you discharge one gets two blood packs and the rooms you know that this maternity one is you treat three consecutive numbers but a foot the lowest number here has to be mother or infant they heal two steps the one higher and the one to higher each heel one step one however this one it’s it’s similar where the the mother infants is the one in the middle and there’s one lower and one higher to find different ones or what about this one he’ll I dive any color one step and then a mother and an infant but they all have to be the same number and treat a die as a different color for the rest of the round or heal any patient two steps and then a mother or infant two steps but they have to be the same number you get it don’t you they generally relate to healing mothers and infants as you would expect their maternity wards but also heal other patients but give you some control as well like you change the color of some dice there are also some neutral departments that get mixed in as well that also relate to you healing patients but also treating other patients as different colors for the rest of the round so now mothers can be in the bag with the other dice I’ve actually broken a little rule here you can only have one mother in each ambulance so that would be more like that we start the game with not just the three patients you know set two three four five where you also start with a mother and infant each set to three and you get this lovely little maternity Chevron it’s come here where the infant goes so if you were to draft an ambulance with a mother on it you would take than the other dice as normal but you put the mother in a ward that doesn’t really have a mother in it you get another pediatric ward here and then you roll a die and that’s going to determine on a one-two-three you would just get one infant but on a four to six it’s twins and so another cool extra with the maternity expansion is that you have two obviously the mother isn’t gonna be discharged when the baby is still ill and vice versa so you have to be able to treat them well enough that you can progress their values to seven basically they go up to six but in dice hospital you already know dice hospital ding I don’t need to explain this to you you need to get them to six and then treat them one more step to get them discharged they have to be discharged in the same round otherwise they will just stay where they are and you’ll have to do them another step to get them to seven again next time at the same time to get them out to help with this you do have a special spot in each of the pediatric wards where you can send a worker and that will heal either the mother or the infants one step there is still neglect for your patients you know when you don’t when you don’t treat them this round they are going to deteriorate their conditioners but it only happens if they are sharing a ward with other patients so you know getting some kind of illness from them so it only really matters here this mother here on a ward and around she hasn’t got a baby she’s the one with twins isn’t she so she’ll be in here with her babies and she is not sharing a ward with anyone else so wouldn’t go the condition wouldn’t worsen because of neglect the mother in here though would and you know would go down one step because of sharing the ward with other patients babies do not suffer the neglect ever and no pink dogs will ever be fatalities the mothers can’t go below what which I think you’ll agree is very good touch it’s a it’s a relief and mothers and babies count as every other patient in terms of discharging because you know in Dallas hospital you want to try and discharge as many patients as you can but time it so they all get discharged at the same time so you can maximize your points oh there’s also administrators exclusive to maternity as well this one would let you reroll the maternity die you know the one that determines whether you’re getting one or two babies to hopefully get something more to your liking and this one lets you choose a mother that doesn’t suffer neglect this round so that’s the maternity expansion and finally we have the collections expansion and this changes how we get new patients into our Hospital you’ll notice the ambulance drafting is completely gone we do still have our ambulances up here which we will put our patients in but instead we’re gonna have paramedic meeples I’m just going to use the syringes the special ranges that remind you what player you are you will put your paramedic metal on the outside of a tile and once a person has put their paramedic outside a tile you have to choose a different tile and this is specific for two players that says he gets much bigger at bigger play accounts and the tiles are rotated as they are drawn in such a way to maximize the number of connections and reduce the number of dead ends but it still ends up you see here we’ve just got a right angle it doesn’t connect to this tile here and we’ve got a nice little end there there’s a dead end here we also have some City bonus tiles that come out for every two that was rolled because the same rules apply that cou you roll all these dice and fill at the city any ones or sixes re-rolled and so now in player order we will draft from the city we will draft three patients each so when it’s your turn so no one will have chosen a tile yet when it’s your turn you will put your paramedic next to at all and so now you move your paramedic around to collect three patients but if you move into a tile you have to collect a patient so because I’ve started here I have to take this patient into my ambulance let’s say while she’s doing this he’s closer to my arm and then I can move here you know the way that the roads are I can go here or here but I have to take the patient that I move into this space for so I could go here because then I’ll get this city bonus token as well or and so now I have the option I can’t go up here there’s no road that would take me to the five I can go to the four you’re allowed to move through other players paramedics and you can go back through tiles you’ve already been to so I could backtrack now and go for the four instead or this for those are the only two options that I’ve left myself with and you know based on other entry points into the city I would have had other options so my ambulance token would have stayed where I started here so let’s say I end up here with my paramedic token and everything’s groovy in a future round I have to you know Marty in this round would not be able to pick the same place that I chose the same tile to start on have to choose a different one and in subsequent intake phases I would have to rotate my ambulance one or two spaces around the board and start from there instead the exception with this is though the first player is going to have a helicopter token and I believe an actual a helicopter is being produced for this in the same way that the 3d ambulance is worth for the original deluxe version of the game and double check on the campaign page though I’m making this before the campaign pages there take my blind words for it but yeah the first player is going to have a helicopter and it’s gonna be able to go to any starting space of that they choose when any row or column is completely emptied it fills up at that point here to keep earth otherwise you would run out of patients to be able to get wouldn’t you and so you know you can time that’s you know if your third selection is going to clear a row or a column you know how much do you want that dies because it’s probably gonna give the next player a load of choice and so this is some of the available city tiles remember these only appear on the spaces with dice that show a two so patients that are you know the the sickest to begin with that you’re gonna have to put some real work into and there is a token that lets you treat a die is a different color for this round this lets you treat an extra die of any color one step this lets you adjust your intake totals now when we have you have drafted our three patients each we compare the total pit on the docks and that is going to determine the player order and similarly to how the ambulances would work in the normal game the person who took the the lowest total of patients took the the hardest to treat patients gets to go first at this token lets you adjust your intake total by plus or minus two this gives you a temporary nurse for this round only a blood bag and this lets you treat a patient two steps but of a specific color in the activation phase and so that is a quick overview of everything that is in dice hospital community care well a prototype at ease of what it’s going to be in – Hospital community care if you saw my original videos for dice hospital and numerous times I’ve mentioned it on this channel you’ll know that we absolutely love the game we love the theme of it we love the puzzling nature of trying to manipulate these Daleks and you know trying to save lives trying to be the cleverest in your you know construction of your hospital in the patients that you take in in the specialists that you get and trying to combine those trying to build a great engine with them but the expansion really I’m really impressed with the other – gonna be it overly impressed because it happened with the based game as well but with the the creativity that’s in it and adding even more theme into the game as well with you know the maturity expansion that you’ve got to treat the mothers and the infants at the same time and we have a lot of things that relate to just healing the mothers or infants but they will also have an effect on the main patients as well on the the standard patients that we are used to treating and you know all of the modules include some way of manipulating the colors of dice as well that can be a really really big thing because you might have really built yourself up to treat one color amazingly well and just gotten the Oh bad luck or something pulled you in a different direction in the intake and you aren’t as strong in that color this time and yeah do you just let them deteriorate in your wards without being able to treat them effectively or do you use the powers that you can get from these expansions have manipulated their colors you know the intake as well I really like the draft with the ambulances from the base game but this is beautiful and yeah another really lovely thematic thing that we are driving through the city picking up patients and not only are you trying to think about the you know the consecutive string of patients that you’ve got which is going to change up loads as other players or taking the patients that you needed or suddenly opening up gaps that you can skip through to get to a patient that you really want it and so yeah that might be why you don’t necessarily want to be first player but you know another incentive also to take the patients that are a much bigger risk for you because you will get these special city bonus tokens as well that can really help you out in other areas and the improvements expansion just off-screen here still from literally the improvement expansion is a beautiful little thing because it’s adds to the the core concepts that you had in the base game of trying to get the perfect configuration of the rooms and the specialists and the balance between those things this can really help you specialize in things or you know spread out and do that have the the great oaken’s that will give you a permanent extra nurse permanently change the color of a patient or get extra blood tokens that can be really useful but also can help you with those specific colored ones and really really help you specialize in a certain thing I we sort the soil in the example of getting you an operating theater he’s already amazingly good at treating one red patients and what if you got one or maybe a couple improvement tokens that further those steps you would be even more incentivized to take the the worse off patients the twos and things too because you are a powerhouse that can treat them alone but anyway this is enough of what I think about it remember this is all prototype stuff and I don’t know what I’m talking about do I am a man in front of a
