Community Engaged Learning

Community Engaged Learning

If you don’t learn together, you can’t
expect to work together Music At the Centre for Student Engagement co-curricular community engaged learning is all about connecting with community organizations
in the GTA West and allowing students to volunteer give back and find their fit
both at UTM as well as in the community Music This year I joined CSE as the volunteer
with their social innovation project this connects students with the
opportunity to meet community partners and help their causes it’s fun
interactive you learn a little bit about yourself and your place in the world and
how everything is interconnected Music I decided I wanted to get more involved in
the community and joined onto the SIP project Max’s Big Ride it’s been a
wonderful experience the entire thing has been really a way to not only give
back to the community but also connect with my peers here at school because a
lot of times I’m kind of isolated to your own and so it’s a really good
chance to meet everybody and work for an organization that is very true to
self it’s for a really good cause The journey of trying to find yourself
is really hard sometimes I think people can get lost really easily and
experiencing new things and trying to see which direction you want to head
towards is a really great experience Music It’s one thing to learn in the classroom
about formal theories and frameworks that you can apply in your day-to-day
work but once you’re a part of an interdisciplinary team things shift in
many ways Music My name’s Alysha Ferguson and I’m the manager of Community Engaged
Learning. Our team is made up of a number of different staff, student staff, team
leaders, student volunteers so there’s lots of opportunities for students to
get involved as well as professional staff to gain really valuable skills by
working alongside students and organizations Music The best part about our
office is we are very innovative we’re very excited about thinking outside the box working with community organizations to say what is it that the community
needs and asking those questions of what can our students do in the community Music My name is Sally Hart and I’m involved with Girl Guides of Canada and this year our girls were involved with two programs at
UTM. I think the most rewarding thing for me is seeing young girls in our programs
being exposed to these opportunities that they wouldn’t otherwise have had.
Our leaders can’t give them the opportunities that they were provided
here at UTM. Music My name is Alison Canning and I am the executive director and founder
for a non-for-profit organization called Let’s Get Together. I was introduced to
the Centre for Student Engagement at UTM and it was the most amazing experience
for me as an individual, as a parent and as an organization. Music If you don’t know about the Centre for
Student Engagement you’re really missing a fun group of staff that are here to
support you and to develop you as a person, for you to be encouraged to lead
projects and our name says it all Centre for Student Engagement Music
