All-Star Day of Service

All-Star Day of Service

(MUSIC)>>Voiceover: MLS and Wells Fargo volunteers
teamed with MLS legends for an All Star Day of Service at nonprofits across Chicago. (NATSOT cardboard box tearing)>>Voiceover: At Cradles to Crayons, volunteers
unpacked and organized back to school supplies for kids whose families struggle to make ends
meet. (NATSOT scissors falling into box)>>Bernard Cherkasov: Chicago has over 180,000
children who are living in poverty and homeless situations. Something that binds us together as a community,
whether we’re sports fans, whether we’re sports players, is that sense that we’re
all in this together.>>Suzy Thomas: Volunteerism is a huge part
of my life and it’s very important to me. And when we came over to Wells, it was so
great to see how much the community meant to them, and I love the fact that they’re
helping us help our communities. (MUSIC)>>Voiceover: The volunteer day was part of
MLS Works, Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative.>>Brian Ching: I think in the next five to
ten years you’re going to see soccer in this country really, really grow, and we’d
love to be able to keep that grassroots feel. Where we’re athletes that are definitely
approachable and in the community, and out giving back.>>Vanessa Valentin: In my community where
there’s fears, where there is pain, where there is parents getting deported and families
splitting. I think that seeing groups come together really
wanting to help, it’s a blessing and it reminds us that we’re not alone. (NATSOT photographer: “three”) (NATSOT
Crowd: “MLS!”) (MUSIC)
