My name is Kayla Gallivan. I’m a senior sociology
major with a minor in English at D’Youville College. As an intern I kind of finished up
cases for the paralegal and the attorney in the office. When they had a case overload
I helped tie the loose ends. I feel like I’ve built some professional skills during my internship;
with networking with local attorneys and other people in my community. My future career goals
are to be an attorney and go to law school. Part of the way my internship has helped me,
is actually getting my hands wet in the field, and going through policy books and law books.
It got me more interested than I was before. So I think part of the reason I do want to
be a lawyer is because I do enjoy working with people, but there’s also a research background
and logic and problem-solving attached to the job. So I’ve made connections with all
of the professors in the sociology program and I like them all. But I’ve really made
a connection with Dr. Julia Hall, kind of as a second advisor. She still keeps in touch
and checks in, she has emailed me some job offers and opportunities she thinks match
my particular interests which is nice.
